Work Package 4
Launching and Testing through Civic Education on EU Decision-Making Training Activities
Work Package 4 brings the GreenScape experience into real-world civic action. Building on the Virtual Escape Room developed in WP3, this work package focuses on launching and testing the project’s educational outputs through a series of transnational training activities centred on EU decision-making and youth civic engagement.
WP4 creates direct opportunities for young people to actively participate in debates and discussions on EU governance, fostering critical thinking and informed civic engagement. By linking the Virtual Escape Room experience to real-world policy implications, participants gain a deeper understanding of how their individual and collective actions can have a tangible impact on EU decision-making processes — particularly in the context of climate change and sustainability.
Main Activities
- Youth Debate on the Role of Youth in Advancing Climate Justice Structured youth debates are organised to provide participants with a platform to actively engage in discussions about EU governance and climate policy. Through a moderated debate format, young people are encouraged to research, prepare arguments, and exchange diverse perspectives — developing their ability to express informed opinions and feel empowered to contribute to shaping EU policies.
- Real-Time Simulation of EU Decision-Making Roles Participants take part in a real-time simulation of EU decision-making bodies, with each participant assigned a role representing a different stakeholder. Scenarios are built around climate change and resilience policies, allowing youth to experience first-hand how decisions are made at the European level and to reflect on the consequences of their choices. This immersive activity fosters a strong sense of civic responsibility and empowerment.
Specific Objectives
- Provide comprehensive civic education on EU decision-making processes and institutions.
- Encourage active participation and engagement of youth in discussions and debates on EU governance.
- Bridge the educational content of the Virtual Escape Room with real-world policy implications.
- Continuously test and refine educational resources related to EU governance and policymaking.
Expected Results
- Participants will develop critical thinking skills and the confidence to express their views on EU governance.
- Youth will gain practical insights into how civic engagement can directly influence EU policies on climate change and sustainability.
- The activities will foster a sense of responsibility and empowerment, reinforcing the connection between individual action and institutional decision-making.
- Innovative good practices related to youth engagement in sustainability, aligned with the European Youth Goals, will be identified, celebrated, and disseminated to a wider audience.
Within WP3, the consortium builds the Escape Room structure, creates engaging puzzles and scenario-based challenges, and integrates sustainability principles and EU decision-making themes directly into gameplay. All puzzles and narratives are aligned with European Youth Goal #10 – A Sustainable Green Europe, allowing young participants to navigate real policy dilemmas, reflect on climate justice issues, and practice civic decision-making in a dynamic, gamified setting.
WP3 also develops clear, accessible user guidance to ensure that every participant understands how to navigate the room, interact with its components, and fully engage in the learning experience.
Through this work package, GreenScape becomes a practical, youth-friendly tool that strengthens critical thinking, collaboration, and active citizenship—empowering young people to participate meaningfully in shaping Europe’s sustainable future.
